Online vs Offline Test Series for NEET : Which is better and Why?

Online Mock Test vs Offline Mock Test

What you should prefer? Especially for NEET Aspirants

In my previous blog, I discussed the importance of Mock tests in the preparation of  competitive exams and strategy to boost the performance by eliminating some common mistakes. In this blog, I am going to compare the Online and offline test series, especially for NEET students. There is a large transition from offline to online mode during this pandemic for maintaining the social distancing and avoiding large gathering to prevent the spread of deadly Coronavirus. This transition has many advantages as well as many disadvantages. Online tests are feasible and cheap in terms of setup. Online tests have fewer chances of cheating. It takes less time for result declaration. Also, it is easy to provide the result analysis in terms of time management, wrong questions, skipped questions and correct question analysis. On the other hand, offline tests require high administrative and operational setup and is costly. It takes time for answer checking and result declaration. Students prefer online test series because it is a comfortable mode, and they don't need to travel to the  centres for the examination. It can be given at home. Lack of exam centres for the famous institutes like Aakash, Allen, etc in remote areas, villages and many districts of the country also promote the use of online test series. But, I will suggest here that the offline test series are more beneficial as compared to online test series. Here are the key differences which make the offline tests more beneficial:

OFFLINE TESTS:

  •  Generally given at exam centres. Many students are present in the surrounding, with one or two teachers/staff roaming here and there. Environment is much similar to that of actual exam with same level of fear and nervousness. Also, NEET is a pen paper test. So, it would help you a lot in overcoming your fear and nervousness during your actual exam. It will also boost your confidence level.
  • Generally given from home. It's comfortable as well as easy to give. Environment is very much known to you as you have spent here studying at least 1-2 years. It's much different from your actual exam.
  • You can change your selected answers again and again without any problem. Also, you can switch to any questions easily in between the sections, unlike the offline tests. Options for mark for review make it easier.

OFFLINE TESTS:

  • You will be given question paper and OMR sheet. You have to record your answer in the OMR sheet like your actual NEET exam. You will get practise of filling OMR sheet in correct manner and in short duration. It's an important factor as per the time management. Many students take a lot of time to fill the circle and many other incompletely circle the OMR sheet, both of which leading to deduction in marks. So, You will be able to avoid these deductions.
  • You have to just click on the right option and move to the next question as OMR sheet is involved.
  • You will get only one chance to circle any one option out of the four like the actual exam. You can't switch to the other option if you realize that the option you have filled is incorrect. So, giving the offline tests you will be able to avoid filling the incorrect options in the OMR sheet.
  • You can change your selected answers again and again without any problem. Also, you can switch to any questions easily in between the sections, unlike the offline tests. Options for mark for review make it easier.

CONCLUSION:

After the comparison, you will come across that offline mock tests are more helpful than the online tests, though online test series are more comfortable. It provides the environment very much similar to that of actual NEET exam. It will boost your confidence as well as eliminate the silly mistakes. If you can't opt for Offline Test series due to reasons like lack of centre availability, you can go for online test series. But, solve the paper in such a way that you have at least 20 minutes left(So, that in actual exam you can fill the OMR sheet perfectly). Also, before going for the actual NEET exam, you must practise at least one time to fill the OMR sheet correctly. Now, a day, many books are available which provide mock tests with the OMR sheet. You can also practise from them.
