NEET: Introduction, Eligibility, Syllabus and Exam Pattern

NEET:

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test or NEET is a common entrance test for admission to various Undergraduate Medical courses like MBBS, BDS, BAMS etc. NEET is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency(NTA) which has been introduced in the year 2019 by MHRD.

Eligibility:

  1. The candidate must have completed minimum age of 17 years by 31st December 2021. The provisional maximum age limit for general candidates is 25 years with a relaxation of 5 years for categories like SC, ST, OBC etc. 
  2. Candidates appearing for NEET 2021 can be Indian Residential, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals.
  3. Candidates who have either completed or are appearing for 10+2 or equivalent examination are eligible to appear in NEET 2021 exam.
  4. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Botany/Biotechnology in 10+2 or equivalent courses. 
  5. Unreserved and General-EWS candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to SC, ST or other backward classes must have secured at least 40% marks in qualifying examination. Those candidates who have received education abroad and wishing to get admission into the medical colleges must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with 50% marks in class 12 and their equivalency recognized by the Associate of Indian Universities(AIU)

Exam Pattern:

  • Duration of Paper - 3 Hours
  • Number of questions - 200
  • Maximum marks - 720
  • Each Paper consists of 4 subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology
  • Each subject consists of two sections - Section A and Section B
  • Each Section A consists of 35 questions, out of which each question is to be attempted by a candidate.
  • Each Section B consists of 15 questions, out of which only 10 are to be attempted by a candidate.
  • Correct question yield +4 marks, while -1 marks for wrong questions. Skipped questions will be marked as 0.
